The Highworth

1 Westrop, Highworth, Swindon SN6 7HJ, UK – 01793 762364

Took the family for a Sunday lunch. Between us we ordered the roast Beef and the roast chicken. All meals were beautifully cooked and presented. Staff were exceptionally polite and courteous, nice warm atmosphere within the restaraunt, which in turn was very nicely decorated. Will definitely be going again :)

Great as usual. We usually go on Thursday for steak night. £33 quid for two pretty good steaks and a bottle of wine. Everyone there is so welcoming and the decor is lovely!

The Saracen's Head Hotel, Highworth

High St, Highworth, Nr Swindon SN6 7AG, UK – 01793 762284

It's a very nice pub, has a separate food eating area and a separate bar area, depending on what you want from your experience, you choose at the door. There's a large amount of outdoor seating too. There is a car park for the pub at the rear, but there is also plenty of free parking nearby. The whole place is nice and clean, including the toilets and the staff are very pleasant. Prices on food and drink are very good and the food is great! Excellent portions.

Stopped in at Saracens Head for lunch. First time there. Absolutely loved it. Would 100% recommend and will definitely be going again. There light bites menu was great value and quality for money. A lovely atmosphere

Stanton House Hotel

The Avenue, Stanton Fitzwarren, Swindon SN6 7SD, UK – 0843 507 1388

Hotel was lovely. Very nice room, comfy bed. Had the Japanese food which was very tasty (my only problem is that as an uncultured Brit wanting some Japanese food the menu wasn't very informative). Breakfast was also great with lots of options. The grounds were beautiful. Which breakfast included and £40 restaurant voucher, ended up being an extremely well valued hotel.

Beautiful Japanese-inspired hotel in stunning location. Rooms are spacious and clean with great views. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is top quality. However, this idyllic venue is popular for weddings and a large wedding party will soon have you feeling like an intruder, so if it's quiet relaxation you want, give this a miss. Shame really, as it really is a great hotel. But for the reason given I could not recommend it.

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

The Freke Arms

Good food. Great beer.

We always go here for our date day lunch once a month. Love the food and such a warm welcome cannot fault them.

Cold Harbour

Ermin Street, Broad Blunsdon, Swindon SN26 8DJ, UK – 01793 724840

Excellent, I ate here a couple of months ago and again today 18/08 /2017, both times my food has been delicious as was the rest of the meals for my fellow guests. The waitress today, I think her name was Michelle, she was attentive without being pushy and when she learnt that we were there for a birthday she brought over a little cake with a candle, it was very well received by the birthday girl. Would highly recommend and will definitely be returning

Disappointed today. Booked a meal for 5pm....no roast pork...which is what two of us wanted. So had turkey instead....but no cranberry sauce!!. Dinner was a little on the dry side. Wanted blackberry and apple pie. ..guess what....none left!!

Robins Farm

Latham Road, Blunsdon St Andrew, Swindon SN25 4DL, UK – 01793 726424

Really good family friendly place to eat and drink. Food is good with a wide selection of normal pub food and a carvery. Kids done is nice with staff friendly and supportive. The cakes/desserts/ice creams are superb. Kids are glued to the display!!

Food was good when we got it. Ordered 2 main meals and 2 carvery. The queue for the carvery was 15 minutes long which is to be expected of a busy carvery pub. Our other 2 mains however arrived another 20 minutes after that. Which meant the carvery meals where finished before the other 2 meals arrived! Puddings where much quicker and of a decent size.

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Hayward House

Very friendly staff, the owner is very polite and the rooms are cozy and clean. The building is very nice and spacious too meaning you can stay out of other guests way from your day to day.

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!
